Build-it no. 2: How to Make Chloroform (solvent ONLY!)This is a featured page

Hi, and welcome to Build-it no. 2: how to make chloroform. this chloroform is very potent, and is pure, and you should NEVER use it for anything other than as a non-polar solvent, such as an anaesthetic (doctors have stopped using it for a reason!). But, because i trust my readers, i am going to put it up anyway, however i will not take any responsibility for misuse of any substances found on this and any other page(s), and the manufacturing of chloroform causes intense heat, and the mixture can explode, causing you to pass out/get burned/die.

CHLOROFORM IS DANGEROUS; YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!*

YOU WILL NEED:

acetone
ice
water
shock powder (calcium hypochlorite ONLY)
a disposable pitcher or pot

HOW TO MAKE IT:

Step1
Pour water into the pitcher and dissolve the shock powder into it while stirring. Step2
Add a few pieces of ice and begin pouring the acetone in and continue stirring. Step3
The mixture will begin a chemical reaction that increases temperature. The chloroform may accidentally be distilled off during this reaction if you do not keep the water below 140 degrees. Just around 135 is ideal. Step4
The three layers that can be seen after the reaction is complete is; top: unreacted acetone, middle: water and any remaining ice, bottom: chloroform. Use a separator's (thistle) funnel to remove the chloroform from the bottom, and i recommend that you separate it more than once, to remove any residue.

Nota Bene:

# When reaction occurs it can raise the temperature of contents to nearly 140 degrees. Chloroform can be distilled at this temperature so caution should be taken to keep the heat down below 140 degrees.
# After reaction appears to be complete you can raise the temperature slowly to allow unreacted acetone and shock powder to react.
# Chloroform can be used as a non-polar solvent in chemistry and this should be it's only use!
# Chloroform is not used as an anaesthetic anymore because of it's health dangers. It would be wise to not use it as a drug.
# Chloroform may be hazardous to the environment

IF ANY OF YOU TRY USING THIS PRODUCT FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAT AS A SOLVENT, IT IS YOUR OWN FAULT (IN FACT I WON'T EVEN ACCEPT RONSPONSIBILITY FOR USE AS A SOLVENT, JUST TO BE SAFE LEGALLY)
thank you!
